General Questions
Do I need an appointment?
Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) STI Clinic – Phoenix operates on a walk-in basis with limited appointments. Because services are first come, first served, we recommend arriving as early in the day as possible.
Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) STI Clinics in Glendale, Goodyear, and Mesa welcome both appointments and walk-ins. To schedule an appointment, please call (602) 506-7218
All Maricopa County STI Clinics close daily from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
For walk-in services, please arrive before 11:00 am to receive services prior to the 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm closure, and before 3:00 pm to help allow time for same-day care. Please note that as a walk-in clinic, arrival before these times does not guarantee that you will be seen the same day.
You do not need to be a Maricopa County or Arizona resident to get tested—all are welcome.

What happens during my visit?
Getting tested for STIs at the Maricopa County STI Clinics consists of following steps:
Phoenix
1. Complete the registration process and pay the fee or present your insurance information.
2. Specimen collection may include blood and urine; staff will provide instruction on oral and rectal swab collection.
3. For those examined by a medical provider, treatment options will be provided if needed. Patients are encouraged to eat a light snack and drink water before visiting the clinic.
4. Additional resources and information will be provided if necessary. Please ensure all questions are answered prior to departure. To make a future appointment, please ask any staff member before leaving Clinical Services.
Glendale, Goodyear, and Mesa
1. Complete the kiosk registration, a number will be provided. Complete the registration process and pay the fee.
2. Specimens collected by a Medical Assistant may include blood, urine and will provide instruction on oral and rectal swab collection.
3. A medical provider will review the patient’s sexual history, explain the exam, perform an STI exam if needed, provide treatment and follow up instructions as needed. Patients are encouraged to eat a light snack and drink water before visiting the clinic
4. Additional resources and information will be provided if necessary. Please ensure all questions are answered prior to departure. To make a future appointment, please ask any staff member before leaving Clinical Services.
How long will my visit take?
At Maricopa County STI clinic, the wait times vary, depending on how busy the clinic is and the services being rendered.
How soon can I get my test results?
If you are at least 18 years old and are seen in the STI clinic, you can request to sign up for the Patient Portal during the registration process. A valid government-issued photo ID is required to register for portal access. All patients receive a visit summary, with the results line phone number. Patients who prefer not to sign up for the patient portal can call the results line phone number. Test results are available Monday through Friday, 9 am to 11 am. Patient account number is required to obtain results.

How much will my visit cost?
A fee of $20 will be requested at all visit at all MCDPH offers testing Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 am -12 pm and 1 pm – 5 pm. On Wednesday’s, the clinic is open from 9 am -12 pm and 1 pm – 5 pm. Additionally, there are many low-cost options for testing, many other providers within the community offer testing. What are the signs/symptoms of an STI?
Signs/symptoms can vary depending on the infection. Common symptoms include: pain during sexual intercourse, a burning sensation while urinating, itchiness in the vaginal area, as well as bumps and sores in the genital area. If you are experiencing any symptoms that are abnormal for your body, we encourage you to see a provider and request to be tested for STI’s.
I don’t have signs/symptoms. Should I still get tested?
Absolutely – many individuals with STIs do not show any signs/symptoms. If untreated, STIs can cause serious long-term damage including: infertility, pelvic infection, ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic pain.
Should my partner get tested as well?
Yes, it is recommended that you bring your sexual partner(s) so they can be evaluated at the same time. We also offer partner services, which allow our staff to contact your partner(s) and refer them for evaluation without disclosing any of your confidential information, including your name or other personal details.
Is my information confidential?
Your medical records are all completely confidential. None of your information will be shared with outside parties without your consent.
Patient Portal Questions
How do I access the Patient Portal?
If you are at least 18 years old and are seen in the STI clinic, you can request to sign up to take advantage of the Patient Portal during the registration process.
What sort of information is available on the patient portal?
Your full medical record (visit notes, lab results, x-ray results, appointment history, medication information, etc.) is available to you on the Patient Portal. You can also send secure messages to the MCDPH staff regarding your healthcare (please note that these messages will become a part of your medical record).
If I don’t have a Patient Portal account, can I access my medical records?
At MCDPH STI Clinics you can request a free copy of your test results from Medical Records at any of our STI clinics by completing a Release of Information form. Copies of test results are provided Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 11 am and 2 pm to 4 pm. A valid government-issued photo ID will be required to obtain copies of your test results. To maintain patient confidentiality, copies of test results will only be given if the name and date of birth that you gave during the initial registration process matches exactly with the name and date of birth on your photo ID. All patients seen in at an MCDPH STI Clinic, receive a visit summary, with the results phone number. Patients who prefer not to sign up for the patient portal can call the results line. Test results are available Monday through Friday, 9 am to 11 am. Patient account number is required to obtain results.
Am I allowed to set up a Patient Portal account for my children, spouse, and/or partner(s)?
Due to the confidential nature of a medical record and our commitment to patient confidentiality, our policies do not allow Patient Portals to be set up by anyone except the patient.
I never received an email with my username and password, what do I do?
The message should have been sent by MCDPHPortal. Please check your Junk and Trash mailboxes to ensure that the message did not get lost. If the message is not in your Junk or Trash mailbox, go to the Portal Website by clicking HERE. Then, click “Can’t access your account.” You will be able to request your username and/or password from there. Please call Public Health’s Medical Records office at 602-506-6018 during normal business hours for additional assistance.
I deleted the email with my username and password. Can you send it to me again?
Unfortunately, we are unable to resend Portal activation messages. The message is system generated and is only sent once. After that, you will need to return to the Public Health Medical Records office with a valid photo ID to re-establish your account.
I am locked out of my Patient Portal account. How can I unlock it?
Unfortunately, the only way to unlock your Patient Portal account is to come in person to the Medical Records Office at:

Testing & Treatment Questions
What does “Presumed Negative” mean on my test results?
“Presumed Negative” means that based on the tests that were run at the time of your visit, we did not find any evidence of an infection. If you are still experiencing symptoms or have been re-exposed, please come back for follow-up services.
My test result says “Positive.” What does this mean?
“Positive” means that the test that was run found evidence of an infection. If you were not treated for this infection at the time of your visit (you can find this information on your visit summary), you will need to return for treatment.
I think I was treated at the time of my visit. Do I need to get re-treated?
Depending on what you were treated for, you may need to return for additional treatment. Please call us to speak to a provider.
I have question about my results and/or my treatment. who can I call to get help?
